Back in June and July of 2006, the cartoonist got very bored while on the plane and busses in Zambia. She began to draw some of the animals she saw (or wished she saw) in Chobe and Mosi-O-Tunya...
Some of the animals began to take on human characteristics... And they were well aware that people were taking pictures of them...
Then she decided to try and compare her favorite animals that she saw (and one of her favorite big cats) to the members of her favorite band in order to recreate a comic she submitted to the school paper (This comic has since been lost).
She began to apply such jokes to other bands... okay, one other band...
However, she much more enjoyed comparing them to The Who and planned out humorous scenarios that these animals could be involved in...
She continued to anthropomorphise the animals and developed characters based off of people she knew.
Then, she finally decided to try her hand at a graphic novel. This one was originally going to be called "Kafue". The first chapter was going to be called "The Gnu" and centered around four animal friends who wanted to start a tribute band for The Who as well as a lion who found an old flame he had assumed was dead... Notice how Keith looks more like a real leopard and John is showing facial expressions...

This draft of the graphic novel was not finished because the cartoonist quickly lost interest.
However, in late July of that same year, the cartoonist began to try again, this time on bigger paper. This time, the graphic novel was abandoned after four pages. A similar plot involving Keith and his four friends occurred, but this time, only Keith had "disovered" the equipment. Researchers are working to recover this cartoon.
